You’re a security seeker, spender

Security Steve
Primary Personality

SECURITY STEVE

Just like Steve, your child’s primary Money Personality is Security-Seeker! Security-Seekers like to be prepared. They hold onto their money until they’re absolutely sure they know what they want to do with it. As a kid, this might mean looking at all the toys or candy in the store before making a decision. Or maybe they check out the reviews on a new game before they buy it. Regardless, your child is all about safety with their money.

Steve is a very cautious person. He likes a lot of security in his life, like knowing that his mom will always be there to pick him up from school and that his night light will keep him safe from monsters under his bed. This isn’t to say that Steve doesn’t like to have fun! He loves video games and racing bikes with his best friend Risky Ricky. But before he buys a game or bike, he always has to read the reviews to see if it’s worth paying for. He loves always having a plan in place. But unfortunately, this means he often misses out on lots of fun opportunities his friends invite him to. He’ll miss out on bowling and going out for ice cream because he’s scared he’ll spend too much money. Steve’s mom is helping him to not be scared by creating a budget for spending on fun things so that he can stop missing out!

Sophie Spender

Secondary Personality

SOFIE SPENDER

Your child’s secondary Money Personality is Spender! Spenders are carefree with their money. They aren’t concerned about how much money they spend or who they spend it on. They love to take care of people! You may notice your child when there is candy involved. They jump right in, not thinking twice to save some for later. This is their Spender side taking charge!

Sofie is an aspiring dancer. Ever since she was little, she has dreamt of going to The Juilliard School for dance.

Sofie struggles to save for her dream school because she has SO many wants. She sees new dance shoes in a window and has a deep need to go buy them as fast as she can. There isn’t anything wrong with Sofie – that’s just part of who she is! It does make it hard for her to achieve her future goals, but don’t worry!

Sofie’s mom is helping her to make a piggy bank that Sofie can put some of her allowance into each week. Through careful planning and encouragement from her friends, Sofie will eventually be able to achieve her goals.

SECURITY STEVE

SOFIE SPENDER

A Friendship is born…

Steve is great at planning. He thrives when there is a plan and he can stick to it until the end. Doing so helps him to feel safe and secure. Steve likes to hang out with his friend, Sofie Spender. Steve and Sofie get along great, but they are very different. Sofie chooses to spend her money quickly after she gets it. This makes her personality the opposite from Steve’s. While Steve and Sofie’s personalities are opposite, they both enjoy learning from the other. Sofie teaches Steve that it’s okay to spend money on new things every now and then, and Steve is okay with that as long as he tracks his money. Steve teaches Sofie that making a financial plan can secure her future and make things a lot less stressful when it comes to paying for her dream school, Julliard. Steve and Sofie are happy to have a friendship like theirs that they get to learn from.

Help grow your child’s financial brain

  • 1Sit down with your child and talk to them about wants and needs. Explain that needs are the priority and their wants can be saved for!
  • 2Give your kids an allowance of some sort! It will help them grasp how to save, spend, and share their money.
  • 3Allow them freedom with their money, but do give them some tips. We want to let them have their own money personality and not feel bad about it, but learning aspects of other types will help later on in life.
